Implicit Bias in the Legal Profession: What Can We Do About It

This session will focus on the concept of covert or implicit bias in the legal profession and the cumulative impact that can lessen women’s success in the legal profession. Implicit bias occurs when attitudes or stereotypes affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. Such biases can be favorable or unfavorable. They are triggered without our awareness or control. Inevitably, these biases affect our daily interactions and assessments of others. This panel will discuss how implicit bias works and how it affects our decisions and activities.
