December OWBA GS Committee E-Newsletter

01 Dec 2016 4:59 PM | Kim Fantaci (Administrator)

In the spirit of the seasons, we at the OWBA give thanks to the women and men who attended the Statewide CLE on November 9.  We also celebrate the admission of the new lawyers and wish them the best as they embark upon their careers.  And, we reflect upon our successes of 2016 and envision those that await you in 2017.

As for the statewide CLE, all we can say is it will be hard to top the agenda and the quality of conversations next year!  As one of the facilitators in Columbus I will share with you that we, as co-chairs of the GS Subcommittee, worked tirelessly to provide a top-quality product for the audience.  We hope you enjoyed the conversations that took place that day and took something of value back to your workplaces to implement in your practice.  Whether it was a heightened awareness of what makes diverse workplaces effective and impactful, or whether it was a stress-relieving exercise suggested by Pat Snyder, the courses were designed with you in mind in an effort to offer meaningful professional development.  We hope you valued the experience and will return in the future.

Looking ahead, we will join in the celebration of newly admitted lawyers next week in Cincinnati.  Will you be there?  It is my hope to see many of you supporting and welcoming the next generation of attorneys.  No matter the length of time you have been making this journey as a lawyer, the announcement by the Supreme Court of the bar exam results always bring to mind that time in our lives when we had accomplished a goal.  May that sense of empowerment and excitement propel you even on the most challenging of days.

The OWBA, and the GS Subcommittee aim to provide you with the resources, network, and opportunities to advance you and your career at every stage and in every practice area.  As we reflect, we recognize the subcommittee has grown both in number and in participation in the past two years.  We are confident though there is room for more – more diversity, more programming and more advancement.  To effectuate the progress, I challenge you to present an opportunity to the organization that enhances the leadership, education, networking and exchange of ideas among our members and the community.  We look forward to hearing from and seeing all of you in 2017.

Warmest wishes to you and yours in this blessed holiday season,

Magistrate Judge Amy Koorn & Yukiko Yee
