On September 13, 2018 The Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence (OAESV) will host Olga Trujillo, J.D. who will speak on the topic ofDeveloping Culturally Responsive, Trauma Informed Legal Advocacy Services and Responses. This session will explore the ways in which advocates, lawyers, and systems can adapt services to ensure they are both culturally responsive and trauma informed. Participants will explore the impact of culture on an individual’s trauma and healing; How language, food, customs, status, spiritual beliefs, and other cultural realities can play in an individual’s experience of violence and trauma. Participants will also examine steps they can take to help victims get through system responses and legal proceedings.
OAESV is the statewide coalition which advocates for comprehensive responses and rape crisis services for survivors and empowers communities to prevent sexual violence. While the cost of the ticket is $50, additional sponsorships are welcome and will enable OAESV to continue its important work to:
- End isolation of survivors and agencies working on their behalf;
- Improve services and responses to survivors and all those impacted by sexual violence;
- Increase public awareness about sexual violence;
- Inform and shape public policy; and
- End sexual violence.
With more than 100 guests projected to attend, this event provides a unique opportunity to connect with community leaders in the sexual assault field and develop advocacy skills in this important area. We hope you will be able to join us.
