The Assistant General Counsel – Investigations will work as a Litigation and Investigations counsel. As a member of the Litigation team, this person will be responsible for participating in and leading investigations (as necessary/appropriate) and supporting the Cardinal Health Legal team related to a broad range of significant legal and compliance issues with internal corporate policies, legal requirements, and the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct. Providing legal advice, including business-oriented solutions and related training to internal business partners. Maintain responsibility for conducting interviews, gathering and analyzing relevant internal records, preparing reports and memoranda, and briefing GCs and Legal, Ethics, and Compliance leadership. Work independently when required and collaborate with other members of Legal, Ethics and Compliance, and the business on issues related to ethics and compliance, business integrity, and information security.
What Litigation contributes to Cardinal Health
Litigation is responsible for providing Legal advice, counsel and services in the area of litigation, including managing and resolving disputes, bringing affirmative actions, defending actions brought against the organization, facilitating alternative dispute resolution, and preventing litigation
This person will be leading investigation teams consisting of finance team, outside counsel, Global Compliance team, subject matter experts and other consultants. Communicating fact findings, advising on relevant risks and providing advice, counsel and recommendations to Senior Leadership in order to implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
Partnering with Global Compliance team to identify risks and develop and implement trainings to address issues identified in an effort to reduce future risk.
Developing an in-depth knowledge of, following, developing, improving, updating, and implementing investigation policies, processes, and procedures as well as in-house training and education.
Lead external engagements with enforcement agencies such as the DOJ and other governmental agencies.
Retain and manage outside counsel relating to investigation matters.
Juris Doctorate degree
5-7 years of experience within complex civil litigation, white-collar fraud litigation, and conducting internal investigations in a law firm, corporate law department, or government enforcement
Member in good standing with any US state bar
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
